Journals and Editors

Loyola University Chicago’s School of Social Work is actively engaged in scholarship that informs contemporary practice and the needs of diverse communities.

School of Social Work (SSW) faculty and students are adding insights and information to the professional dialogue, by regularly publishing papers, books, and book chapters. We also engage in editorial work at leading journals and publishing one of the nation’s only student-published social work journals.

Praxis

Praxis: Where Reflection & Practice Meet is the official journal of the Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work. Praxis is an enterprising scholarly effort led by undergraduate, master's, and doctoral social work students at Loyola. Established in 2000, Praxis publishes the scholarly work of SSW students and alumni to provide a forum in which they can express their diverse viewpoints as well as learn from and be inspired by one another’s ideas.

Journal of Poverty

The Journal of Poverty publishes peer-reviewed research on contemporary forms of poverty within a global and societal context along with the lived experiences of poverty and inequality. It regularly features contributions from Loyola SSW researchers. While SSW professor Maria Vidal de Haymes is one of the journal’s three editors, the publication’s editorial board also includes former SSW professor Susan Grossman as well as alumnus Jessica Martone, MSW’09, PhD’13.
