Community Immersion Program
The Community Immersion Program (CIP) at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Social Work intends to involve new MSW students immediately involved in their communities and connect them with their peers. Over the unique four-day program that is held the week prior to the start of classes, incoming students learn about social work’s evolution and its relationship with Jesuit ideals. Students take part in local community projects, learn more about the Social Work profession, and increase self-awareness in their professional role.
Day 1
Students receive an introduction into the history and evolution of social work.
Day 2-3
Students complete community work at a Chicago area community organization site.
Day 4
Students reconvene to reflect on the previous three days and discuss what they learned.

“It’s really nice that we’re bonding with each other and getting all our stressors out and talking about the immersion program’s first day discussions and how it fits in with what we’re doing here. So it all comes together.” –Amanda Gasior, MSW/MJ dual-degree student
