Karin Winters
Academic Advisor
Karin Winters joined the School of Communication in February 2025. Prior to joining the team at Loyola, she served as an academic advisor at DePaul University from 2008-2017. In that role, she helped undeclared and exploratory first year students explore and decide on majors and career paths. In 2017, she transitioned to DePaul’s College of Communication where she served as the Associate Director for Graduate Student Services. In 2023, she made a career pivot by joining the Windy City Harvest apprenticeship program. Through the Windy City Harvest apprenticeship, she gained growing and harvesting skills at multiple farm sites including the McCormick Place roof farm, Arturo Velazquez Institute urban farm, and the Fruit and Vegetable Island at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. She spent 2024 serving as the Urban Agriculture program manager at the Gary Comer Youth Center. There, she managed the Green Teens program, an after-school and summer teen employment program. The Green Teens cultivate and harvest food crops for donation and use in the youth center’s culinary department while also learning about food sovereignty, sustainability and youth leadership.
Karin is excited to be back working in higher education helping students reach their academic, personal, and professional goals. When she’s not working, she’s usually in her garden admiring the dahlias or spending time with her seven nieces and nephews who lovingly refer to Karin as “Aunt Carrot.”
