Michael Rydel

Senior Lecturer


Rydel joined the Loyola University faculty in 1979. A past recipient of Loyola University Chicago’s Excellence in Adult Learning Award Faculty Award, Rydel’s English and literature courses at SCPS include topics such as Shakespeare, African American literature, and human values in literature.

Publications/Research Listings

In 2022, Atmosphere Press published Rydel's first collection of poetry, Almost a Memoir.  As part of the book launch, Rydel recited poetry in a variety of venues in Chicago, New York, and Paris.

Rydel also went back on the road in 2023 and read poetry at This Old Book in Grayslake, The Book Stall in Winnetka, the Wicker Park Open Mic, Parkside Lounge in New York City’s SOHO district, and La Cave Café in Paris, France.  Recently, two new poems from his untitled second collection have been accepted by The Willow Review and Batayan, a bilingual magazine in Bengali and English published in Perth, Australia.
