Peter Norlander
Associate Professor
Associate Professor of Management Peter Norlander, Ph.D. is the senior associate dean for graduate programs and faculty affairs and the director of the Master of Human Resources and Employment Relations program at Loyola University Chicago Quinlan School of Business. His research examines the balance of power in employment relationships, employment discrimination, gig work, and globalization. He teaches courses on managing and motivating in the workplace, employment relations, negotiation and conflict management, and global and comparative employment relations.

- Explores contemporary issues workers, HR, and labor are facing in the 21st Century
- Topics include: Collective bargaining, negotiations and labor law, theories of efficiency, justice, power, wage-setting, inequality, and individual and collective action that improve working conditions
Conflict Management and Negotiations
- Experiential and simulation based, this class teaches dispute resolution tactics and strategies through the interplay between on-the-ground experience and academic theory
Global and Comparative Employment Relations
- Course covers regional and international variation in employment relations practices and opportunities to learn from and implement.
- Emphasizes comparison of work and employment practices between different cultures, institutional arrangements, and systematic international variation.
Managing and Motivating in the Workplace
- Course covers structure and function of human behavior in organizations. Students will be introduced to the principles of theory of perception, motivation, decision-making, job and organizational design as they relate to organizational realities such as power, politics and change.
- Develops an understanding of both individual and group behavior in organizational settings, emphasizing ethics, technology, globalization and diversity.
