William Bergman

Clinical Instructor of Finance


Bill Bergman is a Clinical Instructor at the Quinlan School of Business. He brings four decades of financial market experience across private and public sector roles, including equity analysis, initial public offering syndication, economic research, financial market regulatory policy analysis, and government financial reporting standard-setting. He has a strong track record of identifying investment opportunities and assessing risks affecting investors and financial markets.

Bergman maintains GovMoneyNews, a website featuring a daily newsletter and other resources designed to help students and others understand government finance.

A passionate educator, Bergman is committed to helping students navigate complex financial management concepts within the broader contexts of public policy and social welfare. His teaching background includes six years as a sailing instructor, where two of his students won the Sunfish World Championship in consecutive years. He also incorporates lessons from sailboat racing into financial management, emphasizing principles such as "Sail Your Own Race" and "Don't Follow the Crowd."
