Abol Jalilvand
Professor; Department Chair
Abol Jalilvand is a professor and chair of the Finance Department at the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago. He is also director of the Risk Management and Insurance Center he founded in 2009. He is a seasoned academic leader with more than 35 years of global administrative experience in the U.S. and Canada and a decades-long record of innovation.
Jalilvand served as the dean of business and a senior scholar at major public and private universities with strong traditions of liberal arts education in both the U.S. (Loyola University Chicago) and Canada (Concordia and Dalhousie Universities).
As dean at Loyola University Chicago and Dalhousie University, Jalilvand established premier undergraduate and graduate programs and created and funded research centers and degree programs in partnership with sectors in financial services, pharmaceuticals, and Alternative Energy. Globally, Jalilvand established academic partnerships in China, Russia, Cuba, India, and the Middle East. Jalilvand was also selected as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics in 2009 by Ethisphere Institute.
Jalilvand has achieved successful fundraising campaigns, including a $55 million campaign for the Quinlan School of Business, which renamed the school, and a $30 million program for Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Management.
His scholarly work on corporate debt policy, organization risk management, sovereign debt, restructuring, and corporate governance continues to be widely published and has been supported by major external research grants. He has consulted with universities and corporations in the U.S., Canada, India, and Iran.
