Goals and Outcomes
The Quinlan School of Business educates responsible leaders who strengthen our global business system. We offer undergraduate degree, graduate degree, and graduate certificate programs.
Below are the goals and outcomes of our undergraduate degree programs.
Undergraduate Degree Programs
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting program is to prepare students for successful careers in the accounting profession. To accomplish this, the Department of Accounting and Business Law shares the vision, mission, values and pledges made by the University and the Quinlan School of Business. However, the department also makes the following pledges to its students:
- To continuously strive to add value to the classroom experience.
- To recognize that while there is a professional relationship that must be maintained between students and their professor, we view our relationship as a partnership, with rights allowed and responsibilities expected from both faculty and students.
- To recognize that learning occurs outside the classroom as well as inside. To this end, the department pledges to actively support student activities and initiatives that further enhance their educational experience.
Outcomes
Upon completion of the BBA Accounting program, graduates are expected to have acquired essential skills in the areas of:
- Critical Analysis: Accounting undergraduates will demonstrate the ability to critically analyze an accounting situation or problem and use technology where appropriate.
- Professional Knowledge: Accounting undergraduates will possess fundamental professional accounting knowledge in the areas of:
- Strategic cost management
- Financial accounting
- Audit and business risk
- Tax
- Legal and regulatory knowledge.
- Communication: Accounting undergraduates will possess the ability to document scope, findings and recommendations of accounting work both orally and in writing
- Professional Research: Our graduates will illustrate professional research skills necessary to enter the accounting profession.
Goal
The goal of an undergraduate economics degree is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts of economics and business which will enable them to become responsible and successful leaders in their chosen career paths.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in economics, graduates are expected to:
- Utilize graphical models, logical argument, mathematics, and written communication to explain basic market outcomes and to analyze real-world economic policy alternatives.
- Apply advanced microeconomic and macroeconomic theories to explain the behavior of individuals, businesses, and industries in market-based systems.
- Conceptualize consumers and firms as attempting to maximize some objective function subject to a feasibility constraint, and be able to understand the equalization of marginal benefits and marginal costs as optimality conditions.
- Use their economic knowledge to examine a wide array of issues that are economic, social and/or political in nature, at both the micro and macro levels.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurship program is to prepare students to plan, launch, and grow a new venture, whether organized as a for-profit, nonprofit, or a social venture.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset.
- Develop an understanding of how to translate ideas into viable products or services.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to launch and grow a new venture.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of core business operational skills and their systemic working relationship.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively market as it relates to entrepreneurial ventures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the various channels and tactics entrepreneurs use to attract customers and how it changes over time.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of international markets.
- Demonstrate the application of research to scan for international business opportunities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of international barriers to entry (laws, culture, monetary values).
- Demonstrate an understanding of what is social entrepreneurship and how it differs from traditional entrepreneurship as well as nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basics of how to build and manage a successful social venture.
- Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance program is to prepare students for successful careers in finance and finance-related professions.
Outcomes
At the completion of the BBA Finance program, graduates should be able to:
- Possess critical thinking skills that enable them to identify issues, process information, and implement optimal strategies.
- Create professional, acceptable reports and clearly communicate findings using reports and/or presentations.
- Maintain high moral values and ethics in decision making.
- Possess analytical skills to utilize sophisticated models, manage large data sets, and make decisions under uncertainty.
- Possess sound understanding of various business aspects (accounting, economics, statistics, etc.) and a deep understanding of basic financial concepts and theories.
- Be able to apply financial concepts and theories in the work place.
Goals
The Human Resource (HR) Management program has two primary goals. The first is to prepare students for a successful career as human resources professionals. The second is to prepare them to be effective managers. Both goals require students to develop competencies in talent acquisition/staffing (including employment planning, recruitment, and selection), HR development and training, compensation and benefits, performance management, equal employment opportunity and diversity, and employment relations.
Outcomes
Upon completing this program, graduates are expected to:
- Understand the theoretical and practical demands of HR professional career and human relations requirements of being an effective manager; both of which involve attracting, engaging, and retaining talented employees.
- Develop and administer human resource strategies, programs and policies in the specific functional areas including talent acquisition/staffing (including employment planning, recruitment, and selection), HR development and training, compensation and benefits, performance management and employment relations.
- Understand how the practice of effective human resource management can positively impact the business and result in a competitive advantage to the organization.
- Utilize critical thinking skills which involve complex human behavior and motivation.
- Appreciate of the value and methods for sustaining employee diversity including a global perspective as it relates to human resources.
- Develop research, written, and oral communications skills by preparing in-depth case presentations and reports.
- Appreciate ethical perspectives and support sustainable outcomes with respect to all aspects of HR management.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems program is to prepare business professionals for careers and roles that involve the use of data analysis and information technology.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Utilize the entire systems development life cycle of information systems, including: requirement analysis and specification, system analysis and design, conceptual and logical data modeling, implementation and testing of back and front end, and use of information systems.
- Execute a variety of data analysis and data visualization methods and techniques.
- Conduct data analysis and information systems focused projects.
- Demonstrate competence with SQL and at least one programming language.
- Integrate values and ethics into data analysis and information systems projects and solutions.
- Communicate and collaborate with diverse teams comprised of business as well as systems professional at different levels, within a variety of business units and organizations.
Goal
The goal for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in International Business program is to prepare students for career excellence in positions involving global accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, and supply chain by imparting social awareness as well as business and communication skills needed to participate in overseas markets.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program the graduate will be prepared to:
- Develop theoretical and practical insights for understanding the real world of international business in terms of external environmental forces, cultural, political and economic diversity, and internal strategic management issues surrounding multinational enterprises (MNEs) in the world markets.
- Develop critical thinking skills, especially important in an area that changes as fast and is as complex as the field of international business.
- Develop ability to integrate knowledge from several functional areas of firms, i.e., accounting, business law, economics, finance, information systems, operations, management, and marketing in order to properly understand and work in this area.
- Develop a high level of cross-country and cross-cultural literacy on diverse functional and value-chain activities of MNEs taking place across national borders with emphasis on world languages and study abroad experience.
- Develop research, written, and oral communications skills by preparing for in-depth case presentations on successful MNEs and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) currently operating in the real business world.
- Develop perspectives on business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability with respect to the area of international business.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Management program is to prepare business professionals to utilize and integrate the knowledge, skills, and talents of individuals for the purpose of creating sustained stakeholder value. To accomplish this goal, the Department of Management provides students with a theoretical and practical foundation for effective and responsible leadership in entrepreneurial ventures, small and large business enterprises, and nonprofit organizations.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Understand the dynamics of human behavior in the workplace through the study of perception, learning, motivation, leadership, and group behavior.
- Gain an understanding of team processes and performance in organizations, and develop effective skills and practices creating, monitoring, and improving an ongoing team effort.
- Understand and apply the management concepts and theories at three levels of analysis – i.e., the individual employee, groups, and the organization itself.
- Understand the internal structures and operations of business organizations and the relationships between an organization and its external market and economic environment.
- Demonstrate leadership skills for career success, which reflect effective self-assessment, reflection, communication, and collaboration with others within an organization.
- Develop organizational goals and managerial skills so as to become more effective and constructive organizational members, leaders, and team builders.
- Integrate and apply team-based management and negotiation skills at the individual and group levels to solve complex business problems and make sound business decisions.
- Develop a general management perspective, which incorporates the different functional areas into an overall strategy by taking into account complex and uncertain situations.
- Demonstrate abilities to analyze strategic problems and opportunities in an integrative manner by continually responding to complex and evolving business environments.
- Understand principles of interpersonal influence and conflict resolution, and develop an awareness of ethical issues in the workplace and organizational social responsibility.
- Demonstrate abilities to think and articulate critically about ethical considerations pertinent to the function of management both internal and external to the firm.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing program is to prepare business professionals for a variety of entry-level roles within the dynamic and evolving field of Marketing. To accomplish this, the Department of Marketing shares the vision, mission, values, and goals of Loyola University University and the Quinlan School of Business.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Understand, formulate, integrate, and execute all elements of a marketing plan.
- Develop an understanding of and respect for how and why consumers behave and the influences of cultural, social, and perceptual factors on the consumption process.
- Understand how various elements of marketing mix (offerings, branding, price, distribution and promotion) are combined and coordinated within the framework of a marketing strategy.
- Understand the role and application of digital tools within a marketing plan.
- Apply appropriate research techniques to investigate consumer, social, and environmental trends.
- Distinguish the viability of persuasion through the examination of the currency, relevancy, authority, accuracy, and purpose of available information.
- Discern assumptions and biases that exist among information, misinformation, and disinformation.
- Deliver, engage with, and respond to oral content in a professional manner.
- Produce professional quality written business documents supported by evidence that convey the appropriate tone and style for an intended audience.

Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Sport Management program is to prepare sport business professionals for a career within the sport industry. The Sport Management program shares the vision, mission, values, and goals of Loyola University Chicago and the Quinlan School of Business by offering a broad scope of academic course work that fully integrates business principles and concepts and applying them to the sport industry.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Develop an awareness of the size and broad scope of the sport industry.
- Understand the fundamental business concepts (accounting, finance, economics, marketing, management, human resources, operations management, and information technology) to the real business world of sport industry.
- Understand the historical and sociological perspectives impacting the sport industry.
- Recognize the variety of career opportunities in the field of sport management and the sport industry.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate (oral, written, and personally) in a professional and credible manner.
- Gain and understanding of the leadership and ethical aspects of sport management.
- Understand the current issues facing sport organizations and the management strategies utilized to solve sport business challenges.
- Identify common legal areas relevant to the operation of sport programs and organizations.
- Understand how the economy impacts every facet of sport organizations and the sport industry.
- Apply relevant technologies, such as social, to effectively manage sport organizations.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management program is to prepare business professionals for a variety of roles in managing today’s supply chain.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Utilize sophisticated methodologies to improve or optimize operations across a wide range of industries.
- Use data analytics methods to model, examine, and enhance today’s supply chain.
- Execute fundamental tasks associated with process design and improvement, transportation management, inventory management, and purchasing management.
- Integrate values, ethics, and sustainability into supply chain management.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team comprised of individuals within a variety of business units.
- Apply relevant technologies to effectively manage a supply chain.
- Analyze ways that governmental, institutional, and professional policies directly and indirectly influence supply chains.
