About

Dr. Jim Johnson has been with Loyola University Chicago since September 2000.  He currently serves as an Associate Director in the Career Development Center and as the Chair of Loyola University Chicago’s Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee in the Division of Student Academic Services.  Here, with other members of the Pre-Health Professions Advising Program and in cooperation with colleagues across the division and across the university, he offers guidance and assistance to undergraduate students, post-baccalaureate students and alumni interested in pursuing health professional careers.

Dr. Johnson earned his PhD in 2005 from the University of Michigan’s Center for the Study of Higher and Post-Secondary Education and earned his MEd from Loyola University Chicago. Over the course of his career, Dr. Johnson has served in the areas of student affairs, academic affairs, and university instructor. He has multiple publications, and has presented both scholarly and applied work at a range of national conferences. He has served on the board of the National Association for Advisors for the Health Professions at the national and regional levels. Currently, he serves as the Vice President of the Central Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.

Dr. Johnson has served on the faculty of the Department of Sociology since 2013 as a part-time instructor.  He has also taught sections of UNIV 101, UNIV 102, and RMTD 400 at Loyola, and English 125 at the University of Michigan. Dr. Johnson was elected to a university delegation sent to El Salvador in summer 2014 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the UCA martyrs and their lives.  Dr. Johnson was selected as an Institute for Transformative Interprofessional Education (I-TIE) Ambassador in fall 2018.
