CHOIR Funding Opportunities
CHOIR invites all faculty to submit proposals for projects that generate preliminary data for subsequent external funding applications. Special consideration will be given to proposals from junior faculty. We encourage faculty transitioning to new research areas, faculty from schools or departments that have not previously received CHOIR funding, or multi-disciplinary projects to apply. CHOIR offers two types of awards:
CHOIR Award
Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research (CHOIR) grants leverage our informatics and data science expertise and infrastructure to expand health outcomes, health disparities, and related research across LUC and LUHS. This award welcomes projects that incorporate either quantitative or qualitative informatics and data science methods, utilize high-performance computing, or apply informatics and data science tools in novel ways.
Health EQ Award
Health Equity grants focus on social determinants of health, reducing health disparities, and environmental health impact on health disparities. This award welcomes projects that feature community partnerships that address health equity in Chicago or Illinois communities. Proposals outside the Chicagoland area will not be considered.
Both funding opportunities are open to the entire LUC/LUHS community. Multidisciplinary projects across departments, schools, and campuses are strongly encouraged.
Eligibility
The PI/co-PI must be full-time faculty members at LUC/LUHS. Co-Investigators and other senior personnel may be faculty or staff.
Funding Details
The CHOIR steering committee will entertain proposals up to $50,000 total for a period of up to one year for the CHOIR and Health EQ Awards. The internal budget award template must be used, or the proposal will not be considered for funding. A new Loyola or IPRS number must be obtained prior to submitting the proposal.
Funding is limited. The budget must be accurate, conservative, and carefully reflective of the work. Cost extensions are not allowed under this funding mechanism. Funds may not be used to cover faculty salary or student tuition. Proposals should be single-spaced and must follow the CHOIR submission template.
Funding is also competitive; this invitation does not guarantee funding. Please submit the full proposal using Loyola's Grant Program Portal by midnight (central standard time) on March 31, 2025.
Direct questions to Ifeoma Ozodiegwu, DrPH, Grant Awards Faculty Lead at iozodiegwu@luc.edu.
