Apply to Become a Parkinson Scholar

Message originally sent January 6, 2021

I am delighted to announce the inaugural Robert and Betty Parkinson Social Justice Scholars Award – and  invite you to apply to become a member of the first Parkinson Scholars cohort, a group of up to 10 exceptionally-talented students with demonstrated financial need who are dedicated to being “persons for others” and will use their Parkinson education to improve the health and health care of individuals, communities, and systems.

Named for Loyola alumni Robert (“Bob”) and Betty Parkinson, this Award honors their commitment to helping ensure access to quality health care and the recognition that such health care is a basic human right. Bob and Betty Parkinson took to heart the Ignatian value of “being persons for others.”

Prior to his untimely passing in 2019, Bob served Loyola in many capacities: as Dean of the Quinlan School of Business, as Chair of the Board of Trustees – and along with his wife and family, became the lead donors who created the Parkinson School for Health Sciences and Public Health.  Today, Betty serves on the Board of Trustees and like her husband, is a true Rambler fan.

The Parkinson Scholars are yet another step forward in building the Parkinson School and educating the health entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow.

I encourage you to apply. Please review the details of the Parkinson Award Scholarship. The Parkinson Awards Committee looks forward to hearing from you.

With thanks,

Dean Elaine
