Math Placement Assessment

Placement Assessment

Loyola placement assessments will help us place you in courses that best fit your skill level so that you may progress through your academic program as successfully and efficiently as possible.

Tools Needed

You may use a calculator. Most students use a graphing or scientific calculator.

Assessment Length

You have 70 minutes in which to complete the assessment. Please make sure you allot appropriate time to complete the assessment.

Assessment Structure

The assessment consists of four sections of 12 questions each.

Cost

The first Math Placement Assessment is free. However, if you wish to retake the assessment, the cost will be $10 dollars, payable by credit card after clicking on the “Take Test” link.

Before you complete the test

Read all the information in the “Before” column to prepare for the test.

After you complete the test

Read all the information in the “After” column to learn more about your placement and your retake options.

Deadline to take test

If at all possible, you should complete your online assessment in mathematics by your assigned orientation deadline found on the main Placement Assessment webpage. This will ensure that you will be able to register for an appropriate math course. If you take the test closer to your DL date, your math registration might be delayed.

Logging-In

After clicking on "Take the Math Placement Assessment," use your Loyola username (UVID), which is the same as the username you use to log-in to LOCUS. If your Loyola UVID is less than 5 characters, use your full first name, followed by your full last name with no punctuation or spaces between and then repeat the last letter of your last name.

For example if your name is Daniel Lee then your username would be "DanielLeee."

Your password is in the format flmmddyy where f=first letter of your first name, l=first letter of your last name, mm=month you were born, dd=day you were born, and yy=last two digits of year you were born. Your username and password are case sensitive, so you must type them using all lowercase letters.

For example, if your name was Jane Doe and your birthday was 01/02/03 your password would be jd010203.

Once you log into the math placement assessment, you will be prompted to change your password. Your new password must be at least 8 characters, must have one lower case and one upper case character, and include one symbol such as #$%&.

If you still are unable to log in after following the above formula, contact the Placement Assessment Team at the Hub at placementtest@luc.edu or 773.508.7700.
