Reflections on spirituality from Loyola Nursing

Closing thoughts on spirituality from the Loyola Nursing community:

"To me, every person contains the whole universe, and every person is sacred. I view my work with curiosity and gratitude."

Lise Hauser, faculty

"I believe that as advanced practice nurses and educators, it is in our domain to practice spiritual/holistic care that accounts for the mind, body, and spirit of our patients, as well as our students."

Vicki Bacidore, faculty

"Spirituality has molded me into the man I am today. There is a greater purpose in all things, and realizing that helps me put my best into everything I do, as I believe you get whatever you put in. If you do your best, God will do the rest."

Marvin Galvan, BSN '27

"My spirituality is rooted in connecting with people and having the privilege to care for them. St. Ignatius's vision of finding God in all things is center to appreciating that poetry and carrying it with me wherever I go."

Jo-Anne Tierney, faculty

"Here is an example of a private prayer that I often say before I teach: 'Father, Lord God, please supply me today with your wisdom and the ability to effectively communicate to my students to help them gain the knowledge, wisdom, insight, and understanding of these complex ideas and concepts so that they can be successful in my class, pass nursing school, pass their NCLEX, and become nurses to care for all of your children in this world. Thank you for using me today as a vessel for your will and purpose in their lives.'"

Eric Zack, faculty

Pilgrims walk in the Rosary Procession in Lourdes, France, during Loyola Nursing's annual service immersion trip. Students assist people seeking healing at the town's heavily visited Catholic shrine as a way to learn how to provide spiritual and emotional care.
