Research Interests

Vicki’s research interests are in the areas of Emergency Nursing.  As a part-time Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Department and full-time Assistant Professor for the School of Nursing, she has been involved in research and quality improvement initiatives ranging from Alcohol Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), Early Pregnancy Loss Management, Family Presence During Resuscitation, HIV/STD Testing and Management, and EMS/Pre-hospital protocols.

Teaching

Vicki teaches multiple courses in the Nursing Graduate Program (Advanced Health Assessment, Complex Problems in the Adult Patient, Advanced Practice Nursing Role Socialization, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Practicum, Emergency Medicine, Suturing and Advanced Wound Care) and has taught multiple courses in the Nursing Undergraduate Program (Leadership, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Nursing Concepts and Theories and Fundamentals).  Vicki is a Lead EMS Instructor for the State of Illinois and teaches the EMT/EMT-P/CCEMT-P and ECRN courses.  Vicki also teaches multiple courses and lectures for the Emergency Nurses Association. 

Service

Vicki is Immediate Past President of the Emergency Nurses Association Illinois State Council and sits on the Research and Spring Symposium Committees.  Vicki sits on the MNSON Alumni Board and is active on the Awards/Scholarship Committee.  Vicki is a member of numerous professional nursing organizations including the ENA, AAENP, AANP, ISAPN, and STTI.
