Junior Sacred Music Major, Grant Nill, selected to perform for Organ Series

Junior Sacred Music Major, Grant Nill, selected to perform for Organ Series

The Organ Concert series is normally reserved for professionals, however, as a phenomenal student musician, Grant has been granted a Sunday evening to perform a collection of Choral Preludes for the Church Year and the works of Bach and Mendelssohn. Grant’s performance is an opportunity for a student to experience a professional playing opportunity while still being a full time student and will serve as a gateway for future opportunities in performance.

Grant Nill is a current Junior at Loyola pursuing a B.A. Music Degree with a concentration in Sacred Music. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, he began his musical studies in piano with the goal of someday playing the pipe organ. After five years of piano study, he began organ lessons with Irene Ator. He studied with Mrs. Ator for four years before attending Purdue University Fort Wayne for his first semester of study. Grant returned for the spring semester of music study at Indiana-Purdue University and once again began to study under Mrs. Ator. Grant is currently pursuing a music degree with a concentration in Sacred Music and studies with Steven Betancourt at Loyola University Chicago. He has been fortunate enough to assist Quimby Pipe Organs in their installation of the instrument at Fourth Presbyterian Church. He spent the summer of 2016 working for Quimby in Warrensburg, Missouri constructing slider chests and learning organ maintenance and service. In addition to all things organ, Grant enjoys flying airplanes and fixing anything with an engine.

The Organ Concert Series in Madonna della Strada is a series that takes place every third Sunday of the month and features a range of professional organist from around the city of Chicago. Past performances have included George Baker, Derek E Nickels, Minkyoo Shin, and Eric Budzvnski. Future performances, in addition to Grant Nill, will feature Robert E. Woodworth, Jr. and Geoff Pautsch. Grant will be among a list of performers in this professional Concert Series archive.

Don’t miss Grant Nill’s performance at Madonna della Strada, February 19th at 3:00pm!
