Cory Tiffin is a performer and teaching artist on the rise. Educated at DePaul University’s School of Music as a student of Larry Combs, Julie DeRoche, and Wagner Campos, Tiffin continues to reside in his hometown of Chicago.

Currently the tenured principal clarinetist for the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Tiffin served as the principal clarinetist of the Green Bay Symphony, the Beethoven Festival Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared with numerous other orchestras throughout the country. Nathan Tannenbaum of the Las Vegas Review-Journal (LVRJ) gave “props to clarinet soloist Cory Tiffin’s saucy/sassy note bending” for his take on Rhapsody in Blue and Alan Adams (LVRJ) wrote that Tiffin’s solos in Dvorak’s New World Symphony were “flawlessly executed.”

As a chamber artist and soloist, Tiffin has been featured as a recitalist with the Chicago Chamber Musicians and as a collaborator with the Fulcrum Point New Music Project. Tiffin has appeared on Live from WFMT numerous times in addition to other radio broadcasts, the Pritzker Pavilion’s summer series, Chicago Cultural Center’s Noontime Series, New Music DePaul, and toured throughout the U.S. and Europe as a chamber artist. Tiffin has also performed with The University of Chicago’s New Music Ensemble and is an original member of the Manhattan-based operamission. Tiffin has been called a “clarinet maverick” by Time Out New York, commended by Bryant Manning of the Chicago Sun-Times for “boldly showing his chops,” and praised by Lawrence Johnson of the Chicago Classical Review for his “understated virtuosity.”

Tiffin is on the faculty for Loyola University Chicago and the Chicago High School for the Arts, an adjunct faculty member at the DePaul University School of Music, an affiliated private instructor at The University of Chicago, and maintains a private studio in both Chicago and Las Vegas. He appeared as a guest lecturer on extended clarinet techniques for Lee Hyla’s composition class at Northwestern University and volunteers at the YOURS Project, an El Sistema-style program where he was a regular faculty member for three years. Tiffin continues to present master classes throughout the United States.
