A) Qualifies as a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian has a college degree) who also has a low-income level established by the U.S. Department of Education;
B) Is a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education:
- Black (non-Hispanic), Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native (as defined in section 7306 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended (ESEA)), Native Hawaiians (as 23 defined in section 7207 of the ESEA), and Native American Pacific Islanders (as defined in section 320 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended); this includes groups underrepresented in STEM as documented by standard statistical references or other national survey data submitted to and accepted by the U.S. Department of Education Secretary;
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent U.S. Residency.
- 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA;
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours (to participate in the summer research internship);
