Dr. Richard Rosenfeld, a pediatrician from Massachusetts, has been making hand rolled beeswax candles as a hobby for over three years. Although beeswax has quickly gotten more expensive, he continues to use the product because it is purely organic and burns evenly and smoothly.
Dr. Rosenfeld purchases sheets of beeswax from a bee keeping company. He then cuts them to the size of candle he want to make. Then, cotton wicks are “primed” – meaning presoaked in hot melted wax themselves so that an even burn and glow is produced. On a hard flat surface, the wick is gently pressed along the appropriate side of the now cut to size sheet, then the sheet is carefully rolled tightly and symmetrically until complete.
