I
n Chicago and abroad, the School of Law’s
curriculum continually expands and evolves to
respond to developing areas of international
professional interest. Our cover story explores
the law school’s diverse slate of international
opportunities—including shorter field studies and
student competitions, as well as the induction of
Loyola’s newWing-Tat Lee Chair in International Law,
James Gathii.
This story also provides an update on the
recently established LLM in Rule of Law Development
degree program (PROLAW®). The University has just
established a PROLAW Endowment Fund with a
capital goal of $12 million. The University provided
the first contribution of $1 million, which has been
generously enhanced by longtime law school
supporter Barry McCabe, a University trustee.
Veterans of Professor Dick Michael’s Civil
Procedure class are joining to endow a scholarship
fund honoring this Loyola legend. In our story,
alumni discuss the profound effect the RAM’s superb
teaching had on their education and careers.
You’ll also read about some of our many alumni
who have expanded their careers with rewarding
work as in-house counsel, and meet recent graduates
and current students who are providing critical
legal services to underserved communities through
Equal Justice Works Fellowships. Our student profile
highlights an exceptional second-year student, Mary
Kennelly, who is seeking a joint degree in law and
public health.
This issue’s spotlight on faculty research is by
Professor Anita Weinberg, a leader in addressing
lead poisoning issues in Illinois. Alum Marci Rolnik
(JD ’00) explains why legal advice is indispensable to
the artistic community. Our Alumni Update section
recognizes graduates who lend their time and talents
to the law school—and offers opportunities for you
to get involved.
With summer arriving, I invite you to put
reconnecting with Loyola among your warm-weather
plans. We hope to see you at the F. Emmett
Morrissey Golf Outing, Founders’ Dinner, or Loyola
Day at the Cubs.
