I
t has been a busy and productive semester
at the School of Law, filled with many
accomplishments. This fall, we welcomed a
new class of exceptionally bright and talented
students who are both geographically and
racially diverse. More than half of the incoming
class is from outside the Midwest, and over a
quarter are students of color. With the recent launch of our
LLM degree program for international lawyers, the Loyola
law community has expanded to include students from
countries across the globe.
The cover story details several of the many graduates
who have found rewarding legal careers serving in our
nation’s military. You will also read about the newest
member of our full-time law faculty, John Dehn, who
joined Loyola this fall as an associate professor after a
distinguished 23-year career in the United States Army.
This issue’s faculty research article highlights the
work of Associate Dean Cynthia Ho and alumna Angela
Upchurch (BA ’98, JD ’01), who are collaborating on an
interactive book to assist students in Civil Procedure.
Our student profile features Rebecca Wylie, a remarkable
3L who discusses her passion for public interest law as
well as her inspirational thoughts on learning and
working with a physical disability. Another article updates
Loyola’s Life After Innocence program, which helps
wrongfully convicted individuals make the transition
back into society, and its newest project, a residence and
resource center for exonerees.
We are especially grateful to our alumni and friends
for their generous scholarship support this year. You will
read about Chicago attorney Robert Parrillo and his wife,
Elizabeth Ackerman, who have made a significant gift to
the School of Law to honor their strong commitment to
public education in Chicago. The Parrillo CPS Scholarship
Fund will support a Loyola law student who has attended
a Chicago public school. Joe Ronan, who attended Loyola
as a part-time law student, and his wife, Colleen Davis
Ronan, also a lawyer, have endowed a scholarship fund
that will aid part-time students. Included in this issue is the
2012-13 Honor Roll of Donors, which reflects the generous
contributions the School of Law has received from alumni
and friends over the past fiscal year.
We value your continued partnership with the
School of Law and thank you for your unwavering
commitment to the next generation of Loyola lawyers.
