Professor Levitz has been involved in the mediation field since 1978. Since 1991, she has been a full-time mediator of child custody and visitation disputes for Family Mediation Services of the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County where she also trains and supervises the mediation staff. She is a long-time volunteer with the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR) where she serves as a mediator and mediation trainer. In 2001, she was selected nationally to receive the first annual Volunteer Mediator of the Year Award from the National Association for Community Mediation. Cookie was also honored by CCR for “Excellence in Dispute Resolution” in 2013.  Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and on the Advisory Council of the Mediation Council of Illinois. Her training specialties include: screening for impediments to mediation, including domestic violence; and mediation ethics.
