Special Assistant to the State’s Attorney, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office

Why did you decide to attend Loyola’s Weekend JD program?
As the special assistant to the Cook County State’s Attorney, I have daily interactions with other attorneys who are committed to promoting social justice. I decided to attend Loyola’s Weekend JD program to help grow my interest, knowledge, and skills in this capacity.

What do you like best about the program?
The Weekend JD program has given me the invaluable opportunity to pursue a career as a lawyer without fully disrupting the flow of my normal life. As a wife and mother with a full-time career, attending law school did not seem possible for me, but Loyola’s Weekend JD program opened an exciting door.

What do you plan to do with your law degree?
Historically, my experiences and interests have focused on the social and criminal justice issues of women and children. After recently researching the housing market in Chicago and discovering the alarming socioeconomic disparity in affordable housing, I might also explore ways that I could use my law degree to close that gap as an advocate for the underprivileged.

What advice can you give prospective students interested in applying to Loyola’s Weekend JD program?
Do it! The work is challenging and you will be forced to remain disciplined, but your thinking will expand. The opportunity to further your career through education is invaluable.

Other information (hobbies, interests, family, etc.):
I was born and raised on the small island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, an American territory in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. I am a former Miss U.S. Virgin Islands, utilizing the platform of pageantry to advocate for social issues. I am a wife, a mother to a two-year-old son, a part-time law student with a full time career, and a want-to-be builder. I am currently in the process of building a single-family home from the ground up in Chicago. I have titled my life “Building Black.”
