Nick Zausch was also honored with the 6th Best Oralist Award at the competition. Further praise goes to Joseph Camper and Courtney Schoneberger who advanced to the Octo-Final Rounds of the Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition held in New York, New York 3/9/18-3/11/18.

Brian Kremers, Kristina Lasker, Jeewon Lee, Basile Manikas, Sara Oakes, Manisha Reddy and Derek Springer (pictured with coach Prof. Teresa Frisbie) competed in the InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution Law School Mediation Tournament in Chicago, Illinois 3/8/18-3/10/18. Kremers, Lee and Springer advanced to the semi-finals in the Attorney-Client Advocacy Category of the competition and Lee took 1st Place Individual Mediator out of 156 competitors. Additional commendation goes to Lindsey Alpert, Cat Fisher, Cameran Gilliam and Jessica Kaminski for their strong representation of Loyola Law at the National Criminal Justice Trial Competition which took place in Chicago, Illinois that same weekend.

We proudly acknowledge our Civil Law Mock Trial team who placed 2nd in the 55th Annual Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County Mock Trial Competition which took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 2/22/18-2/23/18. Sam Crowley, Katie Bennett, Katarina Savic and Lindsey Alpert (pictured) were one of 12 teams to compete in the invitational. Further congratulations goes to Katarina Savic who was named Top Advocate of all competitors.

The Final Round was held on Saturday, 2/24/18, in the Power Rogers & Smith Ceremonial Courtroom. Congratulations to our Corboy Fellow teams who competed in the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition (Regionals) which took place in Chicago, Illinois 2/8/18-2/10/18. The team of Amber Carpenter, Caroline Keig and Edet Nsemo were Semi-Finalists and the team of David DeSchepper, Nicole Gaudin and Ben Horwitz finished as Champions of their bracket. Further recognition goes to David DeSchepper who won a Best Advocate Award. Horwitz, Gaudin and DeSchepper will move on to compete at Nationals to be held in Austin, Texas in April.

Conor and Lauren placed third overall while Simon and Tina received the Best Oral Argument award among all competing teams for the second consecutive year.

Jalen Brown and Kechia Lewis were named Champions of the Midwest Black Law Students Association Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition held in St. Louis, Missouri 2/1/18-2/2/18. Jalen Brown was also named Best Oralist among all competitors. Further recognition goes to Lianne Foley, Natalie Pensabene and Carrie Seleman for their commendable performance at the American Bar Association Region VII Client Counseling Competition held in Chicago, Illinois the same weekend. The Andrews Kurth Kenyon Moot Court National Championship invites the top 16 moot court programs from around the country to compete for the title of nation's best. Congratulations to Loyola's team of Christina Chapin and Thomas Schick for advancing to the Quarter Finals of the competition held in Houston, Texas 1/24/18-1/27/18 and on their 5th Best Brief award. Further recognition goes to Christina Chapin as she was named 2nd Best Oralist of all competitors.

All National Moot Team members advanced to the Quarter Finals in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Regional, Jeremy Ard and Brooke Rogers were Semi Finalists in Chicago, Illinois of 31 teams from across the country, and the Corboy Fellows were awarded a national Fifth Place finish of 18 schools in Atlanta, Georgia.

Our Negotiation Competition team competed in the American Bar Association Law Student Division Region 6 Negotiation Competition in Auburn Hills, Michigan 11/3/17-11/4/17. They were the first of Loyola's Dispute Resolution teams to compete this year. We commend and congratulate Marvin Morazan, Nicolas Ospina, Tom Frank, Michael Buehrer, Dimitri Svigos and Caitlyn Basinski on their diligent preparation and strong representation of Loyola Law.

We proudly acknowledge Ben Horwitz, Britney Pennycook, coach Tracey Harkins, Edet Nsemo and Teresa Russo on their 1st place finish at the Golden Gate University Professor Bernie L. Segal In Vino Veritas Mock Trial Competition which took place in San Francisco and Petaluma, California 10/26/17-10/29/17. Our team brilliantly competed in five rounds against 15 other teams from established advocacy programs around the country to ultimately achieve the highest honor of the competition.

The annual Corboy Lecture in Advocacy was held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 where our distinguished panel discussed the new Illinois legislation aimed at preventing sexual violence in public and private higher education institutions statewide, as well as their research and experiences litigating cases in the complex arena. Many thanks to Cara Hendrickson of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Professor Katharine Baker of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, Jim Navarre of Mossing & Navarre, Scott Warner of Franczek Radelet and Tim Love of Loyola University Chicago for sharing their time, knowledge and thoughts with our community.

We recognize and congratulate our Criminal Law Mock Trial team comprised of Samuel Crowley, Jillian Babineaux, Mary Daly and Ian Stukel-Fallon who advanced to the Quarter Finals in the National Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition set in San Francisco, California 10/19/17-10/22/17 and Corboy Fellows Courtney Fischel, David DeSchepper, Caroline Keig and Amber Carpenter (pictured above) who were named Semi Finalists in the Federal White Collar Crime Mock Trial Invitational held in Washington, D.C. 10/20/17-10/22/17. Both teams impressively showcased their advocacy skills to make for a strong start to the Mock Trial competition season.

Congratulations to Emily Olivera, Jasmine Stanzick, Sowmya Sastri and Lucas Terna for their outstanding performances at the Thomas Tang Moot Court Central Regional Competition which took place in Chicago 10/13/17-10/14/17. Our teams started this year’s Moot Court season off by receiving the highest honors in every aspect of the competition. Emily Olivera and Jasmine Stanzick finished as Champions of the competition with the Second Best Brief Award, while the team of Sowmya Sastri and Lucas Terna took home both the Runner-Up and Best Brief titles. Sowmya Sastri and Emily Olivera were also recognized as Best Oralist and Second Best Oralist of the competition, respectively.

On September 22, 2017, the Dan K. Webb Center for Advocacy’s Dispute Resolution Program presented “Advocacy in Mediation” which spoke to the knowledge and skills litigators need when preparing to negotiate on behalf of a client in mediation. Topics ranged from managing stress responses and selecting a mediator to practical considerations including insurance issues and interest-based negotiation techniques. Many thanks to our dynamic speakers Brigitte Bell, Shannon Callahan, Deborah Cole, the Honorable Jennifer Duncan-Brice, Roselyn Friedman, Teresa Frisbie, Lynn Gaffigan, Rae Kyritsi, Jennifer Morrow, Morgan Rosenberg, Gilda Spencer and Tanya Woods for sharing their knowledge and experiences in such an entertaining and informative way.

Congratulations to Julia Alberts, Kara Smith, Coach Professor Margaret Moses, Lisa Besendorfer and Alison Wallace Davis (pictured above) on their impressive finish as one of the Top 32 out of 338 International Teams at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition, which took place in Vienna, Austria 4/7/17-4/13/17. Our team was also one of only two U.S. Teams who received an International Honorable Mention Award for its Respondent’s Brief.

Loyola’s Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Team, Chloe Sommers, Olivia Sullivan, David Hackworthy, Maureen Moody and Zachary Iacovino (pictured above), competed in the International Rounds of the competition held in Washington, D.C. 4/9/17-4/15/17. Our team performed brilliantly and finished in the International Top 32 of the 127 Teams who advanced to D.C. from their Regional competition. Further recognition goes to Zachary Iacovino and David Hackworthy who were awarded 40th Best International Oralist and 15th Best International Oralist respectively; David Hackworthy notably scoring the highest marks of any U.S. student at the competition.

Jeewon Lee, Tiffany Koss and Brittany Lewis were semi-finalists in Mediation Skills, and Laura Doyen, Tianna Gadbaw and Catharine Debelle were semi-finalists in Advocacy Skills. Further recognition and congratulations goes to Jeewon Lee who tied for 2nd Place Individual Mediator out of 135 students and to Professor Teresa Frisbie who was named the International Academy of Dispute Resolution Coach of the Year.

Congratulations to Lauren Brauer and Mili Meyer on their outstanding performance and finish as Quarter-Finalists at the Hispanic National Bar Association Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition held in Miami, Florida 3/30/17-4/1/17. The competition annually brings together over 30 teams of law students from the nation’s top law schools to argue a case currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Conor Grealish and Lauren Keane were one of ten teams to compete in the National Finals of the International Trademark Association Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition on March 18, 2017. Our team had the great honor of competing at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. where they gave commendable performances, superbly displaying their strong appellate advocacy skills.

Our team competed in 6 rounds of competition with over 20 teams from ABA accredited law schools across the nation, culminating in a brilliant performance and display of their oral advocacy skills at the Final Round held in the Wisconsin Supreme Court Hearing Room of the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Loyola Law’s 41st IntraSchool Moot Court Competition was held on Wednesday, 2/22/17 at the Dirksen Federal Building, with final rounds taking place on Saturday, 2/25/17 at the Corboy Law Center. The Final Round was held in the Power Rogers & Smith Ceremonial Courtroom with the Honorable William J. Bauer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, Loyola Law Alumnus Honorable Mary Ann Mason of the Illinois Appellate Court, and Deputy Solicitor General of Illinois Brett E. Legner presiding. Congratulations to all of our 2Ls who competed with specific recognition and honors going to Runner-Up Christina Chapin and Champion Thomas Schick who impressively showcased their appellate advocacy skills.
