Supreme Court of the United States Group Admission and Swearing In Ceremony 2025

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is pleased to provide a special opportunity for alumni to apply for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States and be sworn into the bar during an In-Court Admission Ceremony on an argument day before the entire Court. 

Alumni will be sworn in during an argument day at the Court by the Justices and recognized as Alumni from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Our next group admission ceremony will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 beginning at 7:30 a.m., local time.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Alumni who have been practicing members of the highest court of a U.S. state for a minimum period of three years (immediately before the date of application) and have not been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action pronounced or in effect during that 3-year period and appear to the Court to be of good moral and professional character, are eligible to apply. 

Loyola University Chicago School of Law has 12 spots available.

They will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Before filling out the intent for admission form, please note the following:

The application requires two sponsors who are already members of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

  • Sponsors must each be a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court whom you personally know but are not related to.
  • If you need assistance with sponsors, please email Erin Baumann, Associate Director, Alumni Engagement at ebaumann@LUC.edu.

You must also be able to obtain a certificate from the clerk, presiding judge, or other authorized official of the highest Court of a State, Commonwealth, Territory or Possession, or the District of Columbia evidencing the fact that you have been a member in good standing of the Bar of such for at least three years. Bar certificates are not accepted.

Please note that you should only fill out this form if you intend to be admitted to the bar. The form will be made available in the coming weeks.

NEXT STEPS:

Upon filling out the form, you will immediately be given the links necessary to complete your application and all information needed to submit your application to Loyola to send on your behalf since you are part of the group ceremony.

  • If the spots are at capacity, a wait list will be enabled, and you will be notified at that time.

Once you have filled out the form and are given next steps you must submit all materials NO LATER than November 18, 2024.

  • Should Alumni Engagement not have your materials or be notified that they are on their way, those on the waiting list will be contact.

Those on the waitlist, will be notified beginning November 18 and must submit materials by December 13.

Please note that Alumni Engagement is not able to accept applications after December 13, 2024 due to SCOTUS requirements.

Participants are responsible for making his or her own travel arrangements and hotel accommodations.

Guests:

You are permitted one guest, who is above the age of 6 years old. No guests under the age of 6 are permitted.

Tuesday, March 4

  • 7:30 a.m. Arrival Time at the Court.
  • 6:30 p.m. Alumni Reception, location to be confirmed.
