First Time Setup

When NEW* id's are created for faculty, staff and students an initial password is created.  This password is temporary and will only work in Loyola Password Self Service.   We must first set-up our security credentials and then change the password.   The process below will have you do both (one after the other)

*Returning faculty, staff and students.  The password is not reset back to the "flmmddyy" format.  Please use your previous self-service credentials to reset your password*


Your password follows this format:  flmmddyy

  • f=first initial of you legal first name  (must be lower case) 
  • l-first initial of your legal last name (must be lower case)
  • mm = 2 digits for the month of birth (must be 2 digits, may include a preceding zero)
  • dd = 2 digits for the day of birth (must be 2 digits, may include a preceding zero)
  • yy = last 2 digits of year of birth

  • Start with “Go to Reset Tool” 
  • Put your username in the box and select “continue”
  • Enter your temp password following the format above and select “continue”
  • You will be prompted to set-up your challenge questions.  You must create 5 different questions with different answers and then select “continue”
  • You have the option to add an alternate email and then select "continue"  we suggest you do, it is much easier to have a pin sent to this email  (we often forget the answers to our questions or error with format: caps and spaces)
  • You also have the option to add your smart phone and then select "continue"   this is even easier by having a pin sent to your phone via SMS text within 5 seconds.
  • Create a new password – follow the rules making sure your password
    • At least 8 characters in length
    • No more than 20 characters in length
    • At least 1 uppercase character
    • At least 1 lowercase character
    • At least 2 of the following rules:
      • At least 1 number
      • At least 1 symbol
      • At least 1 letter
    • Cannot be one of your last 10 recently used password
  • Enter it into the “Confirm Password” and then select “Reset”
  • Select “Finish” You will now be able to use this new password in all University applications.
