Overview of Services

Equipment Loan Program

The Equipment Loan Program offers a large variety of technology and multimedia resources in support of individual, academic projects and pursuits for up to 7-day usage. These resources allow discovery of emerging technology tools, development of creative skills, and delivery of rich multimedia projects, as well as enabling continuity with technology in project and coursework needs.

Computer Labs & Software

We support almost all computer labs across our campuses that serve a variety of academic needs. Ranging from open-access spaces for study and group collaboration to in-classroom labs for instruction as well as kiosks in several busy locations. Our computers boast a wide range of software applications for numerous academic uses and several printing options.

Printing & Posters

At our Lakeside campuses, we support the printers in all our computer lab and kiosk locations. Our printers use the MobilePrint system allowing quick printing from lab machines as well as ease of sending documents from your Loyola email address on any device to print. We also oversee the large-format poster printing services across all three campuses and continue to expand custom print services like button making and more.

Button Making

Are you looking to make your student organization or department stand out at resource fairs and events? How about creative ways to celebrate teams or individuals? We offer printing services for buttons, enabling customized promotional material or mementos as affordable prices and flexible order quantities.

Media Production

Faculty and staff looking to expand their instruction materials or web resources with multimedia content can take advantage of our service request process for Media Production Studio projects. Available across our three main campuses, our studios are equipped with professional grade equipment and skilled Media Production Specialist staff who are eager to collaborate with you to take instruction possibilities to new levels.

Zoom Webinars

Faculty and staff that wish to host virtual events with more presentation-focus and moderated attendee communications should submit request to schedule Zoom Webinars. This allows you to host and lead your virtual event, leveraging capacity beyond the 300 Zoom Meeting limit, options for registration and reports, and unique features like Q&A that can make your virtual experience stand out.

WebCheckout

Departments with needs for inventory circulation, asset management, or self-service resource or room reservations should look no further than WebCheckout. You can maintain your resources, set specific access and usage policies and leverage robust usage reporting, all with ease.

WTC Vocal Booth

Our Vocal Booth is a near-soundproof enclosure that can accommodate up to 2 individuals for ease of high-quality audio recordings for podcasting, interviews or narration. This resource is located within our Water Tower Campus Digital Media Lab and available for walk-in use and by reservation.

Digital Media Advisor

Download the Digital Media Advisor - Application Form. Note this form is linked in our SharePoint site, so it may require login with your UVID and password to access. This position is also published on the Career Center's Handshake system when we are actively seeking new hires.

There are 2 specializations with the Digital Media Advisor role, either with a focus on Equipment & Video or Print & Design. As both positions require a strong emphasis on customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving, our application identifies both primary responsibilities, but also the shared responsibility across both.

Equipment & Video specialization entails:
- Circulate Information Technology Services equipment via the Equipment Loan Program.
- Provide solutions for equipment recommendations, guidance, and training to clients.
- Processing of payments for late fines and technology purchases.
- Conduct routine inventory management and cleaning tasks, and technology resources reviews.
- Opportunities with media production efforts as available.

Print & Design specialization entails:
- Daily monitoring and upkeep of multimedia computer lab locations, workstations, and printers.
- Review and process poster print and button making request orders, payment, and order pickups.
- Circulation of Group Study Room marker kits.
- Routine cleaning to multimedia labs, including thorough break cleanings.

Both areas of specialization include daily troubleshooting and problem-solving with loan or lab workstations; assistance with internal projects, training, administrative tasks, and break projects; and other duties as assigned by the Digital Media Services supervisory team. Note that while we do not require Federal Work Study (FWS) for employment, if the candidate has FWS eligible for use, they will be applied. 

Digital Media Consultant

We strives to offer opportunities for internal promotion for current DMS student workers that demonstrate excellence in customer service, team work, initiative, and overall professionalism. This document serves to outline eligibility requirements as well as job responsibilities for the Digital Media Consultant position.

Consultant positions have further eligibility requirements. These positions are not available for application, but based on performance, professionalism, and recommendation of the DMS Supervisory team. The DMS Manager will extend offers based on these criteria for promotion based on availability. There is a limit of no more than 4 Consultants in a given academic term.

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 full academic semester or 4 months (whichever occurs sooner) as a DMS student worker;
  • Demonstrates excellence in task execution, with thoroughness and consistency, for daily and assigned tasks;
  • Exhibits strong professionalism, communication, and enthusiasm for the work; and
  • Work scheduling must be able to accommodate a minimum of 2 shifts occurring outside of Mon-Fri 7am-5pm (ideally 1 weekend and 1 late afternoon/evening shift).

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Serves as a mentor, providing guidance and internal training for new hires;
  • Serves as a lead to oversee daily poster print operations including reviews, coordination with advisors for printing/pickups, and assistance in preparing monthly account code finance transfers;
  • Works with supervisory team to oversee inventory management and support for the Equipment Loan Program;
  • Triage support for lab workstation and printer issue resolution and escalation via ITS support tickets;
  • Circulate Information Technology Services equipment in the Equipment Loan Program;
  • Daily monitoring and upkeep of multimedia lab locations, workstations and printers; and
  • Assist periodically with efforts to improve and expand internal and client-facing documentation and training resources.

As with all our student worker positions are expected to assist with daily troubleshooting and problem-solving with loan or lab workstations; assistance with internal projects, training, and administrative tasks; and other duties as assigned by our supervisory team. Note that while we do not require Federal Work Study (FWS) for employment, if the candidate has FWS eligible for use, they will be applied. 

Our student workers are expected to be highly motivated individuals with strong communication skills (both written and verbal). Students that have been successful in our student worker roles have:

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively multitask in a professional environment;
  • Experience with digital media hardware (cameras, camcorders, audio equipment);
  • Experience in video editing, graphic design and Adobe/Apple products; and 
  • Previous experience working in a technical and/or leadership roles.

In addition to position responsibilities, all Digital Media student workers are expected to:

  • Maintain a minimum of 12.0hrs/week on a permanent basis.
  • Maintain no other on-campus employment that pays via the University’s Kronos online timecard system;
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with students, faculty and staff, both verbally and in writing;
  • Troubleshoot and find resolutions to multimedia, software and equipment issues;
  • Solve practical problems, address technology issues, and offer solutions to the best of our ability; and
  • Adhere to and follow confidentiality agreements and standards for handling information and data.

Scheduling a large staff can be a logistical challenge. Digital Media Services currently utilizes an online scheduling solution to help facilitate scheduling and time off requests. To learn more, please visit Humanity for more information on employee scheduling software.
