Exploring Chicago Neighborhoods

New to Chicago? Hoping to get off campus and explore, but not sure where to start? Chicago has a wider array of neighborhoods that divide the city into smaller communities, each with their own unique culture and history. Our Exploring Chicago Neighborhoods program is a great way to make new friends from around the world, while simultaneously getting to know the great city of Chicago. Each semester, students explore neighborhoods such as Rogers Park, Pilsen, Hyde Park, Chinatown, Wicker Park, and many more.

Coffee and Conversation

The Office for International Programs, in collaboration with Achieving College Excellence (ACE) team, hosts Coffee and Conversations once a week. Coffee and Conversation offers an opportunity for domestic and international students to meet and get to know each other on a regular basis. Students may talk about any topic that comes to mind, but there will also be a unique conversation starter planned for each week. Student participants are encouraged to explore different perspectives and discuss a range of topics in a safe space. Coffee is provided!

Spring 2018 Coffee & Conversation will take place on Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm in Sullivan Student Center room 216.

Global Mentorship Program

The Global Mentorship Program (GMP) is designed to encourage both domestic and international students to expand their worldviews, improve their intercultural communication skills, increase their English competency, and make new friends.

To achieve these goals, students are placed into Global Groups consisting of three to five students, including at least one student facilitator. Participants will meet with their Global Groups around at least five times throughout the semester, as determined by the group. Each Global Group will pick the activity for their own meetings, which might include exploring a new Chicago neighborhood (link to Exploring Chicago Neighborhoods), grabbing coffee, or eating at a restaurant. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to join in on several GMP large group events, which bring together all Global Groups and will be planned by the GMP coordinator. Events might include a potluck, attending a sporting event, or a movie night.

We are no longer accepting applications for Spring 2018 Global Mentorship Program. Please stay tuned for next semester's application and feel free to contact the GMP Coordinator at iss@luc.edu.
