Dean Manternach

Title/s: Adjunct Assistant Professor

Dr. Dean Manternach is the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha, NE.  It is a sole-purpose health science institution offering degrees in Nursing and Allied Health programs.  Dean received his Master’s degree in Theology from Catholic University in 1993 and his doctorate in Theology and Education from Boston College in 2003.  He has been an online instructor for IPS 555, Human Person and Psychological Development, since Spring 2012.

Students have said “the material could prove challenging to someone new to the field but his teaching style was instrumental in mastering the most difficult of the material,” the course is “highly interactive,” and includes a structure with “a variety of roles for each class session.”

Dr. Manternach was a Professor at Clarke University in Dubuque, IA for 12 years in Religious Studies prior to his current appointment.  His research focus has been in adult education, catechetics, and mission.  He maintains his membership with the Religious Education Association and its forum work in Public Life and the Global Community.  This forum focuses on the role of religious education at the interest of the common good, as well as on inter-religious education.  This dovetails well with his current administrative work and teaching at Nebraska Methodist whose focus is on forming healthcare professionals who see and understand themselves as “Educated Citizens.”
