Selfridge Clinical Skills Center

The Frederick M. Selfridge Clinical Skills Center, Health Sciences Campus
The Clinical Skills Center is located in two areas of Cuneo Center in Maywood, home to the Stritch School of Medicine. Room 330 has 14 rooms designed and furnished to simulate medical clinical exam rooms, an office/control and viewing room for the recording system, and two half-bathrooms with lockers. The space is used primarily for standardized participant (SP) encounters to teach and assess clinical skills, such as:
- Clinical reasoning
- History taking
- Interpersonal Communication
- Interprofessional Teaming
- Physical exam
- Telehealth exam
Learners interact with standardized participants who evaluate student performance and offer immediate feedback. Encounters can be observed live and reviewed asynchronously by learners and instructors, as well as for the CSE’s internal quality improvement process. Currently, standardized participants are employed to teach students in Loyola’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Parkinson School of Health Science and Public Health, School of Social Work, and Stritch School of Medicine, along with residents and interprofessional groups. The assessment center (room 398) is equipped with more than 30 computer workstations, a conference table, and a Smart Board, and provides a space to orient students and SPs, view live and recorded encounters, and sit for post-encounter write-ups and exams.
In addition to SP encounters, the Clinical Skills Center is used for teaching and practicing physical exam skills with both human models and simulated training models such as eye, ear, and gynecologic models.
The CSE maintains an extensive inventory of equipment and supplies to meet the needs of a wide variety of simulation modalities. We are happy to assist with obtaining additional equipment or supplies as needed for a specific training or simulation.
