COVID-19 Loyola Medical Plan Provisions and End of Public Health Emergency

The federal government has announced that the Public Health Emergency (PHE) that has been in effect due to COVID-19 will end on May 11, 2023.

What does this mean for faculty/staff in the Loyola Medical Plan?
Effective beginning May 12, 2023, the following changes affecting coverage for COVID-19 testing and treatment will apply to all Loyola Medical Plan participants:

  • Over-the Counter COVID-19 testing kits will only be covered through December 31, 2023. After December 31, 2023, OTC COVID 19 testing kits will no longer be covered.
    • Note:  If you contribute to the Health Care Flexible Spending Account or the Health Savings Account, you may use your debit card or be reimbursed from your account for the purchase of an over-the counter COVID-19 testing kit after December 31, 2023.
  • COVID-19 testing, treatment, and related office visits will be subject to the same coinsurance provisions that apply to other lab tests and office visits.
  • COVID-19 vaccines (including boosters) will be covered at 100% with no coinsurance if received from a network provider.

COVID-19 Diagnosis Protocol

Faculty and Staff that have been diagnosed with COVID-19 should remain at home for at least five days along with isolating yourself from others in your home. If you must be around others, you should wear a high-quality mask, avoid traveling to places where a mask cannot be worn, and not share personal household items (i.e., cups, utensils). More information about self-care, ending isolation, and preventing the spread of the virus is available online.
