About

In looking at PhD programs across the county, Loyola’s program stood out as offering the best of both worlds: a rigorous academic training in the study of history combined with an exceptional public history program that sets the standard for history departments across the country.

My experience at Loyola exceeded my expectations. I found a group of civically-engaged students eager to explore ideas and push the boundaries of the field. Meanwhile, faculty both supported and challenged students in well-balanced measure. The history department at Loyola holds a rare space to reflect and explore theory while at the same time offering abundant opportunities to go out and apply practical skills and experiment with the possibilities of public engagement.

I completed the history program at Loyola equipped with a strong toolbox of skills and experiences and a robust network of colleagues that continue to connect with me, challenge me, and collaborate on new opportunities. I hope you will choose to join this exceptional community of scholars and public historians at Loyola University Chicago.
