Jessica Brown
Jessica R. Brown is a professor of visual communication and multimedia journalism at the School of Communication at Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Brown began her professional career in journalism as a sports desk editor and graphic designer at The Post-Standard. She later worked as a graphic designer at The Rockford Register Star; and as a sports desk editor and designer at the Orlando Sentinel, before going into higher education. Ms. Brown is an executive board member of the Association for Women Journalists – Chicago; and a member of the Society for News Design (SND), Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). She was recently selected to be a facilitator for the SND annual World’s Best News Design competition; and was a contributor on Good Day Chicago (FOX News local) on Fake News in the era of Donald Trump. She firmly believes in the importance of marrying visuals with the written word. Ms. Brown has a B.A. in English and political science from Illinois Wesleyan University, an M.A. in journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and recently completed her M.Ed. in higher education from Loyola University in May 2017.
