Carol Scheidenhelm
As Director of the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy, Scheidenhelm works with faculty and staff to expand their understanding of teaching in the Jesuit tradition, but also to review and discuss what makes effective teaching. With over forty-five years of teaching experience, this process is one where she gets to share what she has learned but also to learn from each faculty member she works with. Scheidenhelm received her Ph.D. in English from Northern Illinois University, where she worked in the Department of English to help establish the computers and writing program. She moved to Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center and continued working to aid faculty in improving their teaching and learning skills. Scheidenhelm has been at Loyola for the past eleven years, where, in addition to creating and teaching the Online Teaching Course, she has established a number of faculty development programs, most notably Focus on Teaching & Learning, a twice-annual internal conference for faculty, staff and graduate students.
