This spring, the Center for Experiential Learning is co-hosting a workshop series with the Libraries  and the Writing Center to guide you through the process of developing and presenting research and community engagement projects at the 2019 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium and beyond!

Want to know more about presenting at a professional conference or symposium? Not sure where to start? Need help designing your poster, writing your presentation, or honing your public speaking skills? Bring your questions and/or projects to one of our workshops!

Writing the Research Abstract

Wednesday, February 20th at 4PM in Cuneo 103

Writing the perfect abstract can be a challenge. This workshop will introduce you to the conventions of successful abstract writing across the disciplines and help you prepare abstracts for future projects, including LUROP applications, the Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium, and other academic conferences. Bring ideas, drafts, and questions!

Writing for Public Speaking

Wednesday, March 20th at 4pm in Cuneo 103

Public speaking can be intimidating, especially when you're communicating complex research and community engagement projects. Prepare for the Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium and other formal presentatiosn with this workshop on writing for public speaking. Learn how to write for an audience!

Learning Portfolio Workshop

Wednesday, March 27th at 4PM in Sullivan 290

Learning portfolios make an excellent visual, digital aid for presentations. Learn how to make the most of your learning portfolio, including how to incorporate multimedia, engage your audience, and use your portfolio to connect beyond the symposium.

Visualization Tools: Create Images and Graphics for Poster Presentations 

Tuesday, March 26th at 4PM IC 120

Wednesday, April 3rd at 4PM IC 120

These workshops will introduce you to tools you can use to visually display information, as well as strategies for choosing the right type of chart, how to make your graphics visually appealing and more. We’ll cover web-based graphic design and data visualization tools such as Canva and Google Drive. Questions may be sent to Terri Artemchik (tartemchik@luc.edu).
