Engineering Science

What is Engineering Science?

According to ABET, the nonprofit agency that accredits engineering programs, a BS Engineering Science = BS Engineering = BS General Engineering = BS Engineering Physics. Each of these programs, when accredited, meets Engineering General Criteria 1 to 8. Programs with specific names, such as Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, must also meet specific Program Criteria, as well as the Engineering General Criteria.

We have chosen to offer an Engineering Science program because this enables our curriculum to be broadly based in engineering design and system theory. Our students learn interdisciplinary problem solving, which prepares them to be successful in all types of engineering. They also choose a set of six courses for a specialization in Biomedical, Computer, or Environmental Engineering.

The name of our program, Engineering Science, also signifies our close partnerships with the Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics departments, who offer courses for our students.
