We invite you to participate in the Chicago City of Refuge Initiative program undertaken in collaboration with PEN International and the International City of Refuge Network (ICORN) and our local partners the Guild Literary Complex and the Ann Ida Gannon Center for Women and Leadership. 1:00 PM at the Gannon Center, Piper Hall. Our program features two works from two outstanding women writers. Their presentations will be followed by a Day of the Dead ceremony to honor the memory of the murdered writers in Mexico in 2017.

David Ozar, Loyola University Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and a consulting ethicist at North Shore University Health System, will speak on "Social Responses to Transgender” at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 11, in Piper Hall. Ozar has been a consultant to a local transgender support group for its educational outreach programs for two decades and has known many transgender persons. He will explain the meaning of key terms (“gender identity,” “transgender,” “transsexual” etc.) and discuss the ways in which our society has and has not been respectful towards transgender persons.
