EdD in School Psychology
Ready to support students' mental health and address social inequities in schools
The Ed.D program provides the school psychologist professional an opportunity to obtain their doctorate in education while continuing to practice. The program is delivered online and allows the student to choose between three tracks: Advanced Practitioner, District Administrator, or Combined (requires 2 additional courses). The Advanced Practitioner Track coursework prepares students to become advanced in therapeutic practice, which includes obtaining a licensed professional counselor (LPC) or licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) credential in Illinois. Students in the District Administrator Track take courses that will prepare them to become district-level administrators and includes the endorsement for the Director of Special Education on their professional educator license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). It is important to note that students must have a minimum of two years of experience as a licensed school psychologist before entering the program. Students also have the option of the Combined track, which includes the coursework across both tracks for a total of 78-credit hours.

Knowledge
You'll be trained how to think systematically withing the education system and analyze and interpret systems-level data, all while examining inequity within the educational community and developing skills to become agents of change.
Skills
You'll learn how to implement and evaluate evidence-based practices, knowing that your job as a school psychologist is not simply about assessment and placement, but to also address issues of inequity. You'll focus on consultation, education, and intervention.

Curriculum
The curriculum is 72-78 hours and is delivered online providing a wide range of courses that focus on mental health, system change, and administration. The range of courses are listed in our handbook. Each candidate will complete a comprehensive, written capstone project focused on a problem of practice of their choosing.

Transfer Credit
Each student will have the opportunity to transfer a maximum of 36 semester hours of previous coursework towards the required 72 semester hours. Upon being accepted to the EdD program, each student will meet with the School Psychology Program Director to review transcripts to determine which, if any, courses can count toward the EdD program.
Program Length
Students can complete all coursework in two years while attending part-time. Students will take two courses each Fall semester of the program, two courses each Spring, and two courses each summer. You'll take courses together, as a cohort and follow the same course sequence.
Continuous Enrollments
Doctoral students in School Psychology are required to maintain the status of continuous enrollment during their program of studies. This means that during each semester of each academic year (excluding Summer Sessions), each student must enroll in at least one course. A formal leave of absence may be granted upon request and the approval of the School of Education’s Assistant Dean of Student Academic Services
