During the 2019 MLK Celebration, a series of civic engagement opportunities are available during Loyola's MLK Service Day! Dr. King believed in communities coming together to help one another learn, share, and engage in respectful, productive, and transformative discussion.

Loyola is excited to announce we have partnered with the following organizations for several days of service, fellowship, and fun on January 21, 24, and 25 during January 2019:

Monday Service Day opportunities (January 21)

  • Lakeview Pantry - 3945 N Sheridan, Chicago, IL 60613
    • 1:00PM - 5:00PM
    • 8 Maximum Volunteers   
    • Assist with stocking shelves, unload deliveries, sorting donations, or other various jobs.
    • Please wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing.

  • Sarah's Circle - 4838 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60640
    • One Shift: 10:30AM - 1:30PM
    • 5 Maximum Volunteers  
    • Lunch and fellowship, including bingo and music.

Thursday Service Day Opportunity (January 24)

  • Labre (All Saints Chapel, on the 3rd floor of the Terry Student Center - Special Instructions below)
    • One shift: 6:00PM - 9:00PM
    • 15 Maximum Volunteers  
    • We begin with prayer, followed by visiting the homeless on the streets. We then return to All Saints Chapel and spend time reflecting on the human dignity of those whom we have encountered.
    • Sign-up Early via LU Central.
    • Go to the Labre Portal and become a member via the green button located at the top right of the webpage.
    • Go to the Events tab
    • Select "YES" in the RSVP area if you will be attending Labre this week.
      • NOTE: The January 24 event will post on the LABRE section during the week of January 14.

    Interested in helping up help others? Great! Please sign-up online and we'll make sure you receive a volunteer t-shirt to wear on-site.

    NOTE: Volunteers are responsible for transportation to and from the MLK Service Day location.
