Pianist and composer Lara Driscoll recently returned to Chicago after completing her masters in Jazz Performance at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. While in Montreal, she performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival, recorded an album of her original trio compositions, and taught as a lecturer of jazz piano, theory, and history for McGill. Lara has since joined the music faculty at Harold Washington College and Loyola University where she teaches courses in piano, jazz, world music, and humanities.
A versatile artist with a passion for expressive communication through music, Lara performs with her jazz trio, Tango Espejo, Poste-AM Quintet, Beat Kitchen, Mark O'Connor Quintet, Bossa Nuevo, Chris Davis Jazztet and many other projects. She has performed in venues such as The Jazz Showcase, Chicago Symphony Center, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Pickstaiger Hall, Peoria Bach Festival, Bowery Poetry Club, and the Montreal Jazz Festival, and has shared the stage with artists such as Terrell Stafford, Jim Pugh, Dick Oates, Fred Wesley, Larry Gray, Andre White, Kevin Dean, Joel Miller, Jean Michel Pilc and Kevin Turner. Lara studied privately with Cheryl Lim, Alain Swain, Chip Stephens, Chip McNeill, Tito Carrillo, Dana Hall, Joan Hickey, William Heiles, Jan Jarczyk, Remi Bolduc, Josh Rager, and Jeff Johnston, among others.
Lara was awarded the University of Illinois John Garvey Jazz Scholarship, North Texas Jazz Festival outstanding soloist and Union League Civic & Arts 1st place Graduate Jazz Composition, Performance, and “People’s Choice” awards. Lara's trio (Dave Laing and Remi-Jean LeBlanc) was recently invited to perform her original compositions at the Jazz Education Network Conference in Dallas, Texas.
