Thank you for your interest in Loyola University Chicago’s Ballet-based Bachelor of Arts in Dance. We are happy that you will be joining us for an in-person audition.

Schedule for the Day:

Please wear appropriate dance attire.

9:30am Welcome Remarks from the Chairperson
9:40am Dance Program Information Session
10:30am Group Ballet Barre/Center Work
11:15am Contemporary Center Work
12:00pm BREAK
12:15pm Small Group Interviews Begin

 

Please also ensure that you have filled out the registration form for the Dance major audition. 

As part of your audition we request that you please submit a solo on video

  • Solo should two-minutes long and choreographed
  • May be of any technique or style you choose
  • May be composed by the dancer or another choreographer

Please remember - acceptance to the Dance program is contingent upon acceptance to Loyola University Chicago

FAQ about the Dance Major Audition

There are two alternate audition days - March 23 and April 6. 2018. Please use the same registration form and select one of the alternate options. 

Yes, admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Dance is by audition only.

Auditions are not required for the Dance Minor. Incoming students wishing to declare a dance minor or continue upper level dance classes without degree should attend the Dance Placement Orientation offered at the top of each academic year. Information for the next Dance Placement Orientation, if currently available, will be listed on luc.edu/dance.

As part of your application, we request that you please submit a solo on video:

  • Solo should be two minutes long and choreographed
  • May be of any technique or style you choose
  • May be composed by the dance or another choreographer 

There will not be an in-person opportunity for solo presentation. Solos must be submitted online as part of your application. 

Please dress in form-fitting appropriate dance attire and approrpiate dance shoes.

You may want to bring snacks or a boxed lunch and a refillable water bottle. You do not need to bring a headshot or resume.

As part of your application, we request that you please submit a solo on video:

  • Solo should be two minutes long and choreographed
    • Videos of your solo may be longer than 2 minutes, but we will only consider the first two minutes of the video as part of your application.
  • May be of any technique or style you choose
  • May be composed by the dance or another choreographer

Yes, it is. We have had a number of students who were not initially accepted into the Dance major focus very intently on their improvement in Ballet for their freshman year, re-audition in the spring term and join the Dance major their sophomore year.

Yes, if that is the case we encourage you to participate in our very popular Dance minor.
