New Student Convocation

New Student Convocation is a celebration of university life and the academic traditions of Loyola. Convocation is an annual tradition where all new undergraduate students (first-year and transfer) officially begin their academic careers as Ramblers. Students are welcomed to the university community by the President, Provost, faculty, staff, student leaders, and a keynote speaker.

New Student Convocation consists of three parts:

  • Pre-Ceremony Welcome: Students arrive on East Quad to be welcomed by the university community and begin their processional from East Quad, through the Cudahy Library green doors, and into Gentile Arena
  • Convocation ceremony: new students hear from the President and other special guests and are welcomed by the faculty
  • Post-ceremony celebration: celebration of new Loyola students on both the East and West Quad

2024 New Student Convocation

Friday, August 23, at 3:00PM CT in the Gentile Arena

New students will gather on the East Quad between 1:30-2:00PM. After a brief welcome at 2:00PM, students will be arranged for a incoming class photo and then process through the green doors of Cudahy Library and the Welcome Tunnel to New Student Convocation in the Gentile Area. Immediately following New Student Convocation, students will return to the East Quad for a new Rambler Rally. After the rally, students will travel over to the West Quad for dinner.

Students do not need to register for the event. More information will be shared via email in August, and students will be given instructions at their Residence Hall Floors Meetings or CommuterCon that morning, and walked to East Quad.
