Candidates interested in delivering the Graduate School Student commencement speech must apply by March 15. The graduate student must be a part of the graduation ceremony on May 9. Ideally, the speech should reflect on the experiences of graduates at a Jesuit university. The speech will be between 3–5 minutes, which is about 700–850 words.
Interested candidates must file a letter of intent, along with a draft of the speech, and a brief resume to: Elaine Goetz, email@example.com.
Please include a daytime phone number and email address where you may be contacted during the semester. The Commencement Committee will notify the selected student by April 1.
If you are a PhD student, you will be hooded on stage by your dissertation director. Please check with your director regarding their ability to participate in the ceremony. If your director is unable to attend, please arrange for another faculty member (e.g., another member of the dissertation committee or the graduate program director) to serve as your hooder. Please notify Elaine Goetz (firstname.lastname@example.org) of this arrangement by Friday, April 14, 2017.
Monday, May 8, 2017, 6–8 p.m., McCormick Lounge, Coffey Hall, Lake Shore Campus
As part of the Commencement celebration, the Graduate School invites all those attending the commencement ceremony to a cocktail reception in their honor. Students are welcome to bring their family and friends. The reception is free for all students and their guests.
