GAANN Fellowships for Graduate Study in Chemistry

The Chemistry Department of Loyola University Chicago has been awarded a Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Needs (GAANN) Fellowship Project by the U.S. Department of Education, starting with the Fall semester of the 2000-2001 academic year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, permanent residents, Pacific Islanders, or citizens of one of the Freely Associated States with demonstrated financial need.

The Fellowships, which are intended for Ph.D. graduate students of superior ability, provide a stipend of $15,000 per year plus full payment of tuition. A stipend supplement of $4,600 is provided for the purchase of health insurance, books and journals, computers, or travel to professional meetings.

Loyola offers an exciting educational experience including a wide range of graduate courses and research opportunities in all major chemical fields. The many advantages of our graduate program include small group size ensuring individual direction, modern facilities with state-of-the-art instrumentation, and a productive research environment.

College faculty are invited to recommend students for a GAANN Fellowship, and students intending to pursue graduate studies in chemistry are encouraged to apply directly. Applicants should complete the application process as soon as possible. Application materials are available now.

Loyola University Chicago is an equal opportunity educator and employer. Non-discriminatory practices will be followed when admitting students. Equitable access to and participation in the federally assisted GAANN Project will be provided. Research projects are available for students unable to meet the demands of physical or labor intensive projects. Students from groups traditionally underrepresented in chemistry are especially encouraged to apply.
