Alexandru Grigorescu

About

Dr. Alex Grigorescu is Associate Professor in the Political Science Department and Assistant Director of the Global and International Studies Program. His research focuses on international relations and, especially, on international organizations. He is particularly interested in the movement towards greater “democracy” in such organizations. He teaches courses on international organization, globalization, international relations theory, the United Nations system, international human rights, as well as the Global and International Studies internship class. His involvement with the GIST internship program and his research work with a number of students through the Provost Fellowship are a few examples of his strong interest in expanding the types of experiential learning opportunities for students. His professional experiences in the 1990s, working as a Romanian diplomat posted at the United Nations, while pursuing a graduate degree in Political Science, convinced him of the extraordinary value of combining "hands-on" activities with academic ones. In his work with students he therefore often encourages students to seek ways of linking internships, research and even travel abroad experiences to their coursework in Political Science and International Studies.
