Engineering Climbs in Undergraduate U.S. News & World Report Rankings
CHICAGO – September 24, 2024
Loyola University Chicago’s College of Arts and Sciences has received notable recognition as part of the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. The undergraduate engineering program ranks #37 nationally and is the top program in Chicago among programs that do not offer doctorate degrees.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Loyola’s engineering program has earned the top recognition in the city for the category. The program’s #37 ranking is a 21-spot increase from last year’s rankings and places Loyola in the 13th percentile nationally among institutions without a doctoral engineering degree. This distinction ranks Loyola second in Illinois, and among the top 25 private institutions in the nation.
"The university had the foresight to create an engineering program 10 years ago and to trust in new methodologies,” said Gail Baura, PhD, Founding Director and Chair of the Department of Engineering. “We take great pride in the hallmarks of our department, such as being the first engineering program in the country that fully integrates social justice into the curriculum, an emphasis on active learning and an annual graduation rate that is 50% female. We are thrilled that our engineering peers have recognized our continuing commitment to inclusive student-centered learning."
As a University, Loyola ranked in the top third of the best universities nationwide at #132 and is in the top 100 best value universities at #81. Additional institutional rankings can be found below.

About the College of Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences is the oldest of Loyola University Chicago’s 15 schools, colleges, and institutes. More than 150 years since its founding, the College is home to 20 academic departments and 37 interdisciplinary programs and centers, more than 450 full-time faculty, and nearly 8,000 students.
