Preparing for the weather

Let’s face it. It’s awfully cold in the winter. And it can be hot and muggy each summer. But there are things you can do to prepare for the weather, especially if your trip is less than five miles.

Clothing

Choose thin natural fabrics and sweat-wicking polyester fabrics that look nice and stay cool. Try layers that you can take off or put on as you go (of course you need somewhere to put it so bags or a backpack are needed). Use and ankle strap to keep your pants cuff clean and away from the chain and sprockets of your bike. Keep a change of appropriate work clothes at your office to able to freshen up once you arrive.

Equipment

Consider  an upright style of bike with a chain guard, fenders or other covers that keep you from getting splashed and free of debris. Don’t get caught out without a light during winter months as it can get dark early.
