Update on Bargaining Sessions

October 24, 2017

Dear College of Arts and Sciences Faculty,

This afternoon, the University and faculty bargaining teams will come together for our second session of the 2017–18 academic year—the first took place on September 25 following a summer recess arranged at the request of SEIU. Despite reports to the contrary, the University is committed to bargaining in good faith and building on the numerous sessions (approximately 15) that occurred during the last academic year.

Looking ahead, we are scheduled to meet with the College of Arts and Sciences faculty bargaining team three more times this semester, and I expect future sessions will be scheduled for next semester.

To date, we have taken great care to listen and consider proposals submitted by your bargaining team. We have also offered our own proposals that we believe support you and your academic work, as well as preserve the culture and mission of Loyola University Chicago.

Moving forward, we are committed to providing you with periodic updates to keep you informed about the bargaining process. Thank you in advance for taking the time to learn more about our current negotiations and, most importantly, thank you for your many contributions to Loyola and to our students’ education. We appreciate all that you do.

Sincerely,

Thomas M. Kelly
Senior Vice President for Administrative Services
