SEIU-73 Fall Semester Bargaining Progress Update

December 21, 2017

Arts and Sciences Colleagues,

Last Friday, December 15, we completed the last of 5 bargaining sessions held during the Fall Semester. During those sessions, we tentatively agreed to 4 proposals (Personnel Files, Health & Safety, Pay Day, and Savings Clause) bringing to 12 the total number of proposals tentatively agreed to. This semester there has been on-going progress and sometimes intense negotiations around a number of other proposed sections of the anticipated agreement – including Equal Employment & Non-Discrimination, Discipline, Grievance & Arbitration and Access to Services (space, equipment, technology) and Dues. The Union and the University have now shared nearly all of the remaining 20 sections of the anticipated Art and Sciences agreement. There have been discussions about nearly all the proposals and there will be a number of counter- proposals negotiated in the upcoming spring semester.

Here’s more detail on the progress of negotiations:

Arts and Sciences
Tentatively Agreed to Proposals – 12
Initial Proposals Made – 11
Proposals Pending Union Counter – 4
Proposals Pending Management Counter – 4
Proposals yet to be discussed – 2

We are in the process of scheduling bargaining sessions for the Spring Semester and will share those dates with you when they become available. The status of negotiations, information about SEIU and collective bargaining in general, and sample SEIU contracts are available on the College of Arts and Sciences Bargaining Group webpage.

The University remains committed to bargaining in good faith and reaching an agreement on a contract as soon as possible. I look forward to sharing additional progress early in 2018 and wish you a restful and joyous holiday season.

Sincerely,

Thomas M. Kelly
Senior Vice President for Administrative Services
