The role of the social work intern/s provides case management services. Case management is a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the options and services required to meet the student’s health and human service needs. It is characterized by advocacy, communication, and resource management and promotes quality and cost-effective interventions and outcomes.
Some common reasons for case management include linking the student to community resources including:
- Medical insurance applications
- Finding medical and psychiatric providers
- Childcare services
- Housing opportunities*
- Food pantries
- Free tax preparation
*The city has scarce housing resources, and waitlists can be anywhere between a week and several years. Please contact the social work intern/s as soon as possible to begin the process of looking for viable options.
The social work intern/s also facilitate and coordinate workshops at Arrupe College themselves, or invite university and community partners to present on topics such as:
- Mental health
- Physical health
- Sexual health
- HIV/STI testing
- Healthy relationships
- Time management
- Study skills
If an Arrupe College student is seeking social work services, the social work intern is able to provide case management services throughout the academic year. Traditionally, the first point of contact with the social worker or social work intern is an email or phone call requesting services. Next is a 60 minute intake appointment. Students can contact the social work intern directly at 312.915-8922 to schedule these appointments. If the student is in crisis or needs more immediate attention, the social worker should be notified.
The social work intern/s is/are supervised by the Arrupe College social worker, who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
