Office of Institutional Effectiveness - Director Announced
Dear Colleagues:
It gives me great pleasure to announce that David Slavsky, Ph.D., currently Chair, Department of Physics, College of Arts and Sciences, has been named Assistant Provost and Director of the newly formed Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Dr. Slavsky will assume his new responsibilities on a part-time basis effective February 1, 2017 and full-time effective May 1, 2017. As Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Dr. Slavsky will oversee an office responsible for institutional research, learning outcomes assessment, internal and external reporting, data analytics, and academic quality and program review.
Dr. Slavsky has held many significant academic leadership positions during his time at Loyola. In addition to currently serving as Chair of the Physics Department, he is also Director of Core Curriculum, a position he has held since 2012. Dr. Slavsky has also served as the Director of the Center for Science and Math Education, Associate Director of the Institute of Environmental Sustainability, Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Senior Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He has also served as a member of the planning teams for the Engineering Science program and Arrupe College. In each of these positions Dr. Slavsky has demonstrated strong and successful leadership. He has received distinguished teaching awards and has been voted Outstanding Faculty Member of the year by Loyola’s honor students.
Dr. Slavsky received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in astronomy and astrophysics and his M.S. from Harvard University. Prior to his arrival at Loyola, he held several positions including Assistant Instructor, Department of Astronomy, University of Texas; Director, Campus Observatory at the University of Texas; and Editor and staff writer for the McDonald Observatory News.
